Shortly before Act One began on cast change night (16 June) this year and David Thaxton started as Javert, I posted a long ramble that included the following:

[T]he point for me right now […] is that he came back to do it, at the right time physically and vocally (I am in no way going to speculate about mentally/emotionally, ha), and that he’s in position to be a leader, of knowing the show so thoroughly and being such a formidable Presence, just raising a bar that desperately needs to be raised, and I hope calling bullshit when and where necessary. Yes, mileage varies, and no, I don’t think he’s a savior here—in some respects no one can be now—but I think there’s a lot he can do, and just by stepping out onto that stage tonight he has the capacity to make everyone—and everything—around him there so. much. better.

He did, and does, and I still get a bit overwhelmed thinking of just how fantastic he was, and is.
